5-7% council tax rise being considered by Highland Council
Council considering council tax hike to pay for infrastructure
Council tax rises of between five and seven per cent are on the table at Highland Council as it aims to deal with a massive deficit and invest in infrastructure.
“Not a chance, they would just take the money and do nothing!! Plus the amount they're given is more than enough to sort our issues.” - Jay Morrison
“We have no say on the council tax increases anyway, and the council use the money to suit themselves. The services we currently increasingly pay for are reduced (bins, street lighting etc), so the chances of another increase being used to improve infrastructure is slim to none. Our services are a total sham.” - Laura Johnson
“How about the house builders that are building all the extra houses pay for the infrastructure required to service those houses ?” - Matt Davies
“I wouldn’t trust them to use it for infrastructure, they would just waste it on some project.” - Jan Duncan
“We already pay more than usual for less infrastructure plus add ons such as the garden waste bins so why should we pay more.” - Ian Munro

“We are over-run by tourists and camper vans. Get the seven per cent from them and they can pay for their own vanity projects.” - Eric Draven
“How could we possibly trust Highland Council to use any increase of council tax to improve the infrastructure? We know their ‘consultations’ are a sham and to date there hasn’t been a single resignation over the Academy Street scandal. There’s no trust left. I seriously doubt that they would actually use the extra funds to improve the infrastructure, I think they’re far more likely to come up with another ill conceived ‘project’ to blow it on instead. The reality is that Highland Council waste so much of our money on projects that never materialise, on tech that doesn’t work, on temporary employees earning ridiculous salaries and so on. I can’t imagine how anything would actually improve because Highland Council will only waste the extra seven per cent. It just gives them more of our money to blow.” - Kim Corbett
“Sort out a proper tourist tax first then we can talk.” - Fraser Morrison
“No, waste a load of it on nonsense and repairing roads that are in fine condition.” - Alan Gillespie
