Ironworks £30m Inverness Marriott hotel redevelopment plan reportedly collapses after developer Bricks Group enters liquidation
Mystery surrounds the future of the former Ironworks music venue site in Inverness.
Reports indicate the firm that was set to demolish the building on Academy Street and construct a £30 million hotel has gone into liquidation.
In August 2022, Bricks Group controversially secured planning permission from Highland Council to replace the much-loved music venue with a 155-room Courtyard by Marriott hotel.
Ironworks closed after a final show in February 2023, but the site has lain empty since.
Bricks Group, owned by Hong-Kong based company Bricks Capital Limited, had been set to purchase the site from owners Upland Properties Limited, an Aviemore-based company controlled by well-known Inverness businessman David Cameron.
But it has never been confirmed that the sale was completed.
The Courier has attempted without success to contact Bricks, but a spokesman for the firm has reportedly said: “Bricks Capital (UK) Ltd has gone into liquidation and Insolvency 360 has been appointed as liquidator.
“The Marriott hotel development, optioned by Bricks Inverness Capital Ltd, is not going ahead and the application will be withdrawn.
“The liquidator will determine the future of the property.”
The Marriott hotel group also failed to respond to our queries on the future of their plans to occupy the site.
