A heavily-used Inverness city centre street will close to traffic in one direction for three weeks.

Shore Street, connecting the A82 at Shore Street roundabout with Harbour Road and Cromwell Road, will be under a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) from Monday, September 23.

Contractors working on behalf of power company SSE will be carrying out excavation work below the Far North Line railway bridge, while there will also be a full routine inspection of the bridge structure.

The work will result in a single lane closure with city-bound traffic mostly unaffected, but traffic exiting the A82 onto Shore Street will only be able to travel as far as Innes Street.

A Highland Council spokesman said: “During the three-week duration of the TTRO, the road will need to be fully closed to ensure safety as the contractor excavates below the railway bridge, and this part of the project will take around three days to complete.

“Furthermore, there is to be a routine inspection of the railway bridge and this will take place between 10pm on October 1 and 6am on October 2.

“During this time, the road will be fully closed to enable safe access to the structure.”
