UPDATED: 3-vehicle Barn Church Road crash happened after a ‘short’ pursuit as Police Scotland confirm a 20-year-old man was arrested and two people taken to Raigmore Hospital
Last night’s three vehicle crash on Barn Church Road happened after a “short pursuit” by police when a 20-year-old motorist refused to stop.
Officers saw a white Mercedes EQB travelling at speed along Barn Church Road and a chase ended when the vehicle was involved in a collision with two other cars.
Following the crash, a 43-year-old man and 54-year-old woman were taken to Raigmore Hospital for treatment.
The 20-year-old man has been arrested and charged following the crash and is due to appear at Inverness Sheriff Court in connection with road traffic offences on Monday.
Police have referred themselves to the Professional Standards Department for review following the incident.
Earlier, Police Scotland said the incident started at the Shore Street roundabout and led, via Millburn Road, to the A96 and the three vehicle crash before amending the statement.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A 20-year-old man has been arrested and charged following a crash in Culloden.
"Around 6.20pm on 13 September, a white Mercedes EQB was seen by officers driving at speed in Barn Church Road. A short pursuit took place before the vehicle was involved in a collision with two other cars.
"A 43-year-old man and 54-year-old woman were taken to Raigmore Hospital for treatment.
"The 20-year-old is due to appear at Inverness Sheriff Court in connection with road traffic offences on Monday, 16 September, 2024.
“A report on the circumstances of the incident will be referred to the Professional Standards Department for review.”
Police Scotland amended its statement about the incident and this report was changed accordingly.
