Traffic lights will be installed on the busy A9 for three weeks next month as part of the ongoing dualling work between Tomatin and Moy.

Transport Scotland has warned motorists to expect delays when the temporary lights, which will operate 24 hours a day, are installed from May 6 near Dalmagarry Farm. The location is around one-and-a-half miles north of the Tomatin junction.

The transport agency said the lights will enable traffic to enter a short temporary length of single lane carriageway which has been created to enable large pipes to be installed as part of a future diversion of the Dalmagarry Burn below the A9.

A spokesperson said: “Works will be taking place 24 hours a day to minimise the duration required for the traffic management and to allow for the removal of the traffic signals as soon as possible.

“At peak times, there are likely to be delays and road users are asked to plan their journeys accordingly.

“Pedestrian and emergency access will be maintained at all times. A small diversion of the existing NCN7 non-motorised user route will safely guide users around the work area.

“Short delays are anticipated at peak times and road users are advised to approach the area with care and allow extra time for their journeys whilst these works are undertaken.

“Please note, all works are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable. Please refer to the Traffic Scotland website for live updates.”

News of the installation of the temporary lights comes after a new temporary roundabout was created to enable workers to more safely access the construction compound for the dualling work.
