TWENTY-one new positive tests for Covid-19 have been recorded across the NHS Highland health board area in the past 24 hours.

The region’s cumulative number of cases since the start of the pandemic rose from 3456 to 3477 when the latest daily update was published on Monday afternoon.

Across Scotland there were 1429 positive tests in the past 24 hours. This represented 12.3 per cent of all tests carried out during that period.

Some 1959 people were being treated for the virus in Scotland’s hospitals last night - up 41 on the same point the day before and “significantly” higher than the peak of hospital admissions in the first wave of the virus last spring.

Of the 1959, some 146 were in intensive car - down one on yesterday’s update.

No new Covid deaths were registered in the past 24 hours, but the Scottish Government has cautioned that registry offices are usually shut at weekends.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there 14 new cases in NHS Eileanan Siar, which has been hit by an outbreak on Barra.

NHS Shetland recorded three new cases and NHS Orkney detected one.

NHS Grampian saw its cumulative number of cases rise by 113 to 11,254.

And there were 90 new infections in NHS Tayside, which has now reported 10,971 cases overall.

There have been 163,762 positive tests for Covid-19 across Scotland since the start of the outbreak last year.

Today’s update also revealed that 264,991 people in Scotland have now received at least one vaccine injection.
