Inverness man had £200k of cocaine in bag for life
A man caught with £200,000 of cocaine has told a judge how he would rather be a good dad to his kids on the outside than be a jailed drug dealer.
Jason Gorman (34) made the admission to judge Lord Stuart during proceedings at the High Court in Edinburgh today.
The court had earlier heard how police stopped a car being driven by Gorman on the A9 near Newtonmore on November 20 last year.
Prosecutor Nicola Gilchrist told Lord Stuart that police officers stopped the mini close to the Ralia Cafe.
They found that Gorman, of Kilmuir Road, Inverness, had a bag for life which contained two kilos of the Class A drug.
Specialist officers concluded that the narcotics could have netted gangsters a maximum profit of £200,076 if was sold on the street in one gram deals.
The story emerged after Gorman, who works as an HGV driver, pleaded guilty to a charge of being concerned in the supply of drugs.
Ms Gilchrist told the court that police also seized a smart phone from the car and a wallet containing £505 in cash.
Ms Gilchrist added: “The Crown accepts the role of the accused is limited to that of being a courier.”
Judge Lord Stuart made reference to a number of references which had been supplied to the court by members of Gorman’s family - the statements say that Gorman wants to be actively involved in raising his three children.
Lord Stuart said: “You can’t do that from prison. You can’t do that supplying drugs.”
Gorman, who was sitting in the dock, replied: “I would rather be a father.”
Lord Stuart then called for a report to be prepared for the court concerning Gorman’s background.
He will be sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow on November 18.
