Iceland insists it will try to save jobs “where possible” after revealing 20 staff will be affected by the closure of its only Inverness store.

The scale of potential job losses was confirmed a day after the supermarket giant announced closure of its outlet at the Rose Street Retail Park from July 12.

Although there is only one Iceland in the city, the parent company also operates The Food Warehouse at Telford Retail Park, opened in November 2022.

A spokeswoman for Iceland said: “Store colleagues will enter into a consultation process and will be offered opportunities at surrounding stores where possible.

“There are 20 staff at the store.”
