Christmas Day HM Coastguard emergency rescue after two people reported to be in water off Chanonry Point in the Moray Firth
Two people were treated for suspected hypothermia on Christmas Day after their boat ran aground in stormy waters in the inner Moray Firth.
HM Coastguard and an ambulance crew responded to the emergency call just after 1pm on December 25, with reports of the pair being in the water.
The RNLI Kessock lifeboat was also scrambled to assist.
They were both safely helped ashore and received treatment from the ambulance crew after the incident.
A spokesman for RNLI Kessock Lifeboat said: “Kessock lifeboat was asked to launch by HM Coastguard to assist a 28ft vessel which had run aground off Chanonry Point, with reports of their crew being in the water.
“The boat launched and made way at speed in very rough conditions and arrived on scene shortly after.
“Luckily, by this point, the two members of the boat's crew had made their way to waiting coastguard and ambulance personnel who assisted them as they were very cold and wet.
“There were concerns that they were possibly hypothermic.
“As the casualty vessel was so close to the shore, the lifeboat couldn’t get in close enough to assist in the securing of the boat and eventually was stood down and made its way, again, in rough conditions back to the station.”
