A96 to close temporarily for £118,000 roadworks to address defects on surface, says Amey
A busy Highland trunk road will close to traffic temporarily while vital roadworks are carried out next week.
A section of the A96 north-east of Balloch and west of Newton of Petty will be closed to traffic at nights from Tuesday, December 3 to Tuesday, December 10.
This is to allow maintenance teams from Amey to address defects on a 1.2km stretch of the road.
The works, which will cost £118,000, will see the road close from 7.3pm to 6.30am each night except for Friday and Saturday. Weather permitting, all traffic management controls will be lifted by 6.30am on December 10.
A spokesperson for Amey said: “The resurfacing will benefit more than 18,000 vehicles who use this route each day, creating a smoother ride for motorists and reducing the need for ongoing maintenance.
During the night-time road closures, diversions will be in place via the B9090 between Inverness and Nairn, passing through Clephanton, Croy and Cawdor.
The spokesperson added: “Westbound traffic will take the A939 at Nairn and turn right onto the B9101 before continuing on the B9090 to Clephanton.
“Traffic can then turn left onto the B9091 and continue on the B9006 at Croy, following the route to Inshes Roundabout at Inverness. They can then take the fifth exit from the roundabout onto Sir Walter Scott Drive to join the northbound A9 towards Raigmore Interchange.
“Eastbound traffic will follow the A9 south and exit onto the B9006 Culloden Road then follow the above route in reverse.
“There will be local access between Inverness and Barn Church Road. Traffic for the B9039 may use other local routes.”
A free “Road Work Alerts” service is available from Amey’s website. An email address is all that is required to sign up for the service.
