WOULD you propose to your partner on Leap Year Day? More than a quarter of women from Inverness say they would, according to a new survey.

Leap Year Day on February 29 is the one extra day in the calendar every four years when women can traditionally propose to their partners. When asked, 27% of women from Inverness gave a positive response. Just over a third of women (35%) say it is an outdated and sexist concept, but 48% are fine with it.

The results are from a survey of 2,700 people by Lovehoney, the UK's biggest sexual wellness brand.

Two-thirds of respondents (66%) said they would be happy to be proposed to on Leap Year Day, with almost everyone (98%) saying they would love it if their partner surprised them with a day of romance and intimacy.

Lovehoney discovered that a quarter of couples (25%) plan to stay in bed all day with it falling on a Saturday, and almost half of couples (47%) were more likely to have sex because of the extra day in the calendar.

Many couples are going to break with their regular routine on Leap Year Day to get passionate because they usually spend their Saturdays relaxing in the pub (29%), doing DIY (41%), going shopping (43%) or watching TV (66%).

However, four out of ten couples said that despite the extra time they would still be too busy for sex.

A Lovehoney spokesperson said: "It's great that six out of ten couples are going to use the extra time on February 29 for added intimacy.

"The key is for couples to spend some quality time together on Leap Year Day. Skip the usual pub and Netflix routine for a sexier Saturday in bed."
