TODAY marks National Fish and Chip day 2022, in which the UK celebrates one of its national delicacies.
With miles of coast and incredible seafood, there are many amazing expressions of this dish to cherish across the Highlands.

Catch Toll in Clachtoll, Lochinver
A much loved place for tourists and locals alike, the Catch Toll is located in the stunning setting of Clachtoll, Lairg.
Reader Eva Mackay commented: "The batter is the best I’ve ever had! Great size and they go the extra mile!".
Annella Bulch said: "Catch Toll in Clachtoll in the west of Sutherland serves beautiful fish in the best batter I have ever tasted," and Kenny Mackenzie agreed saying "The finest fish supper on the planet! No question."
Mcleod's Fish and Chips, Inverness
An Inverness institution, the multi award-winning chip shop on Grant Street was the second most voted by our readers.
Named the Best Fish and Chips in Scotland at the 2020 Business Awards and also placed on the Fry’s Magazines 50 best fish and chip shops in the UK last year.

La Mirage, Helmsdale
We head north for the third entry on our top fish and chips spots list. Served at La Mirage restaurant in Helmsdale, Sutherland.

The Trawler, Golspie
Beginning or finishing the NC500 route from Inverness? Make sure you stop by The Trawler to warm your heart with fresh fish and chips. Wander along the beach and fill your soul with good food and good views.

Harbour Chip Shop, Wick
The northernmost entry in our list has to be the Harbour Chip Shop in Wick.
One happy customer, Chloe Bunch, said: "Lovely staff, they cope well with very large orders (over 40 suppers for the residents of Riverside nursing home!)."
Jaki Fish and Chip Shop, Muir of Ord
Some of the best fish and chip shops can be found just off the main roads of small villages across the Highlands. If sitting on a baltic cold beach while you eat your chippy tea isn’t for you, then grab yourself a fish supper from Jakis as you pass through the village of Muir of Ord. Not a grain of sand or a seashell in sight. Plus, they often have great offers for family meals!
