A HIGHLAND-based author will be the guest in the latest episode of our literary podcast.

The latest guest on Northern Bibliosphere is Cairngorms National Park Authority's writer in residence, Merryn Glover.

The interview revolves around her latest novel, Of Stone and Sky, which is set in Badenoch and the strath and was longlisted for the Highland Book Prize 2021.

She says: "I love this community, and the novel is a fictionalised version of the communities that you get up and down the strath here, but it captures a lot of the issues and kinds of stories that people live out here, which are particular to this place because of the landscape and the history.

"I don't feel like an outsider in this community, I feel very at home. It might be because I have moved so many times in my life, and wherever I went I made that new place home. So, I never wanted to adopt an outsider's identity. I am also very lucky that it's been very easy for me to move to different places.

"It's kind of always me, in every situation I have always observed with a little bit of separation and a little bit of distance, and observing and writing about something really interesting. It always means for me that there is a journey to get under the skin of a place, to try and really work out what makes people tick here, how the communities work, what does it feel like to have been here forever. It's much the job of the writer and it's a challenge and a journey of empathy and curiosity which I love."
