A rainy weekend in Jacksonville. And I assure you, these are way more common than you may think. Ironic that the “Sunshine State” is actually the fifth rainiest in the country!

Anyway, last weekend it poured from start to finish, it was dull and disgustingly humid. Which all together makes for the perfect excuse not to leave the house.

A large chunk of my weekends is always spent watching golf and keeping up with the PGA Tour action, so TV time is necessary.

America football season is about to begin so my other half, being the biggest Pittsburgh Steelers fan you’ll ever meet, takes control of the TV for the majority of the six-month season – I get a lot of dates out of this arrangement.

But one of my favourite ways to spend the weekend is to find a brand new show on Netflix, or whatever streaming service, and binge. It was the essential lockdown activity, wasn’t it. I mean, what else was there to do?!

But the problem now is we feel like we’ve watched everything. Scrolling, and scrolling, and more scrolling, and going back to the comfort of Friends or The Office to re-watch (and quote) the best episodes for the 200th time.

So it’s over to Twitter, and these are always the best kind of conversations, starting: “Anyone watched anything good lately?”

So, after my full weekend doing copious amounts of research from the comfort of my couch, here are my current recommendations...

Save Me – It’s British, so I was immediately a fan. It’s created by and stars Lennie James from The Walking Dead, and Suranne Jones is also one of the lead actors. I love anything she’s in.

It’s such a great series, pretty dark at times and deals with a really harrowing, uncomfortable topic, but the acting is great and it’s full of twists.

I’m warning you right now about the most annoying ringtone you’ll ever hear though – even worse than that Crazy Frog!

Staying on the British theme: Ted Lasso.

It’s light, funny, packed with such stereotypical British/American banter and just warms my heart. I catch myself smiling from ear to ear at Jason Sudeikis and his cheesy lines.

And the real football is a welcome addition until the American kind dominates my screen next month!

And lastly, if you haven’t watch Yellowstone, get on it now.

Kevin Costner is the lead actor. It’s based on a ranch in Montana and it’s one of the greatest programmes I’ve ever invested hours and hours of my life into.

There are three seasons, with the fourth coming out at end of the year.

It’s so amazing that we were inspired to take a trip to Montana last year and visit Yellowstone National Park, but that’s a column for another day.

Sounds like the perfect rainy weekend? Almost.

Of course, our air conditioning unit decided to pack in on Saturday night. Florida in August with no AC is brutal, and a house at 86 degrees from morning until night is no fun for anyone.

Good thing we had Ted.
