Pop Gig Of The Week: Sophie Ellis Bextor
by Margaret Chrystall
ONCE voted number one in a poll of the most sexy people in rock, Sophie Ellis-Bextor adds the exotic sound of her latest album to her Ironworks gig on Tuesday.
Famously the daughter of one-time Blue Peter presenter Janet Ellis, Sophie has turned to her own family for some of the inspiration behind Familia. Not just to her real family – four sons with The Feeling’s bassist Richard Jones, but also to her musical family of regular collaborators too.
That includes Ed Harcourt who had previously produced her 2014 album Wanderlust.
Launching Familia, Sophie said: “Both Ed and I went on holiday – I went to Mexico and he went to Cuba. So we wanted to do something with more of a South American lilt.”
So get set to welcome Familia, what Sophie’s called “the bolshier, more extrovert little sister” to Wanderlust, as well as those hits – such as almost chart-topper Murder On The Dancefloor and number one Groovejet (This Ain’t Love).
Come With Us from Familia.
