A NAIRN songwriter has launched a second album to support MS sufferers. Through the Window is a brand new album, created by Nairn songwriter Dave Godden to raise funds for MS Society Scotland, supporting people with multiple sclerosis.

Produced by himself during lockdown, Dave pulled together all the instrumentals and harmonies at his home in Tradespark.

“Having had MS myself for many years, I began fundraising in 2018 with an album called Life Stories, recorded with other musician pals,” he said.

“We had wonderful concerts in Nairn and Edinburgh and have raised £7000 from Life Stories so far, but with the pandemic restrictions, this new project has been a whole different experience.”

A Through the Window concert on Zoom in December, featuring many of the new songs, sold out and raised another £1400 for the society. People were hugely supportive and that inspired Dave to record his latest album.

“I had to play all the instruments, sing harmonies with myself, record, mix and master the album, a great though sometimes stressful learning curve,” he said.

“Most of the 12 tracks were recorded during lockdown, although one featuring some whistle playing is from 10 years ago; I can no longer play the whistle due to my MS.

“As with Life Stories, the songs are all based on real experiences. Some are poignant, some are funny, some are very much influenced by experiences of the last year.

“The title track considers how important windows, both real and virtual, have been during lockdown; a chance to see out but also a barrier, for example to those visiting loved ones in nursing homes.

“I hope to be able to perform the songs live in the future, but in the meantime, all proceeds from the album will go to the MS Society, supporting their vital work.”
