JOHN Robertson is poised to bring in new players during the transfer window.

The Inverness Caley Thistle boss will lose influential defender David Raven who has rejected a reduced deal to the end of the season.

On-loan Middlesbrough centre-back Matthew Elsdon will return to his Championship club.

Robertson recently revealed he would love to sign up another striker to boost the Caley Jags’ firepower.

He said: “We are going to have to look at a couple of replacements, perhaps for David Raven and Matt Elsdon.

“Or we may just promote one of the younger lads because we have already done that with Daniel Mackay, Cameron Harper and Jack Brown and all these boys have done well, so we will have to look at what we have got here too.

“We will also have to look around to see who is available because January is always the toughest time. The good players tend to be under contract.

“So we have to look at who is not playing for the other clubs and maybe someone who has fallen out with coaching staff and see if these players are available.

“But they are like hen’s teeth because everybody will be looking for that type of player.”

Robertson told how the club will look abroad for foreign players but he insisted his personal preference would be home-grown players.

He added: “We will see what is available from the foreign market but I would rather stay home based with people who know the league, if possible.

“Ultimately, it will be dictated really by who is available on the market at that time during the transfer window.”

And Robertson said of his front man target: “We are, potentially, looking again at a striker.

“The lads are working away hard up front but you know we can always add.

“I think Connor Bell has six goals, George Oakley has got three so we may need to add firepower, but then again we may not.

“We have always said it is down to the lads in possession of the jersey.

“But in terms of their work rate, their effort and commitment, it has all been fantastic. We are a team who creates a lot of chances and we need to start taking more of them to be where we need to be.

“We may add more competition up front but if the guys find their shooting boots between now and January then maybe it will not be the route we take forward. So if we start to get a lot more goals then possibly we won’t have to.”

However, with Elsdon and Raven departing, plus Alex Cooper being out of contract, there is a need to add depth to the team.

Robertson said: “Obviously, with David leaving, Collin Seedorf would be the obvious replacement in there. But we may still need an extra defender just to be on the safe side.

“However, we can look at Brad Mckay who is able to play at the back, plus Gary Warren has slotted in at centre-half while Ricky Calder can play at the back and we have Joe Chalmers too. We have versatility in the squad but we need to look at something that gets us right back into the promotion race.”
