HOLLYWOOD star Karen Gillan has promoted the efforts of Inverness suicide prevention charity Mikeysline to her millions of fans on social media.

The Inverness-born actress posted a picture of herself wearing a t-shirt showing the logo of the charity's Hive Project.

In December she visited the base in Academy Street, which is designed to provide a sanctuary for people with mental health issues who are seeking help.

Karen said: "People struggle on a daily basis with a multitude of mental health difficulties, yet only a fraction of people are actually talking about it.

"Sadly, there is a huge stigma attached to having poor mental health, this needs to change.

"There would be no shame in going to see a professional if someone was suffering from an infection of the lung, liver etc - so why is there shame in seeing someone about an infection of the mind?

"I support Mikeysline in the Highlands of Scotland which is a text service where you can talk freely about your mental state with zero judgment and it’s totally confidential.

There is also a drop in centre called The Hive in Inverness where you can go in person.

"Text 07779 303 303 if you are experiencing thoughts of depression, anxiety, worry or stress. Please reach out. It’s time to start talking."

Karen's directorial debut film, The Party's Just Beginning, explores the issue of suicide.
A spokesman for Mikeysline said: "When Karen Gillan visited us in December last year, everyone was delighted to meet such a pleasant person who clearly cares for Inverness and the Highlands.
"When Mikeysline first started in December 2015, who would have dreamed that we could have reached 2.3 million followers with a single post?
"Karen, you have made that possible, thank you.
"We look forward to meeting you again soon."
