PEOPLE in an Inverness neighbourhood are being invited to have coffee with a cop in a bid to improve relationships between the police and the public.
The initiative is being hosted by The Bike Shed coffee house which opened in Merkinch last year in a joint partnership involving the King’s Fellowship and the Methodist Church.
Coffee shop manager Dave Saunders suggested the idea after hearing about a similar “coffee with a cop” scheme near Edinburgh.
“I thought it was brilliant and thought we should try it here,” he said.
Community police officers will be in the Grant Street café every Wednesday between 11am and noon.
“It is really a time when people looking to share their ideas or concerns about the community, or problems with neighbours, can come in,” he said.
“It is a more informal and relaxed place than a police station. We are offering free coffee and a warm place.”
