Merry-go-round traffic system blamed for hitting Inverness trade in 1978

IC 200, Inverness Courier

THE one-way traffic system and lack of car parking were blamed for hitting town centre trade.

Highland regional councillor Ritchie McPhee told the road and transport committee in October that one hotel had suffered because there was no parking for cars, coaches or taxis.

There was further controversy at the council's planning committee held that same week when councillors voted by a two to one majority to recommend outline permission for a huge new superstore at Culloden despite warnings it could seriously threaten the success of future shopping development in other parts of Inverness including the major Eastgate scheme.
