Inverness hit by freak flash floods in 2002

IC 200, Inverness Courier

FLASH floods caused chaos across the city in September.

Police advised people not to travel to the Highland capital where some areas were under almost 5ft of water.

Roads, including the A82 and A96 main routes into the city, were closed while others were badly affected by the rain and train services were suspended south and east of the city.

About 200 guests at the Thistle Hotel woke to find they had become marooned while residents were evacuated from 15 houses in the Drakies, Hilton and Culloden areas.
