Insufficient funds to meet policing needs in 1987

IC 200, Inverness Courier

POLICE representatives accused the Northern Joint Police Committee of failing to provide enough money to meet policing requirements.

At a meeting in November, it was pointed out that due to budget constraints, Northern Constabulary's chief constable had been unable to fill seven vacant police uniformed posts.

The Scottish Police Federation said that police staff tried hard to make savings, even not claiming for all overtime and clothing allowances, saving the authority about £142,000 a year.
