DOZENS of guests – many in their nightclothes – had to flee an Inverness hotel as a massive night-time blaze ripped through the building in May.
The town centre was sealed off as about 60 firefighters tackled flames up to 50ft high at the Queensgate Hotel which had undergone a £1 million upgrade less than two years previously.
Two guests had to be rescued from the upper floors by firemen. They included an elderly woman who was snatched from the third floor with the use of a hydraulic platform. She was taken to Raigmore Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation but released after treatment.
The 60-bedroomed hotel – a listed building – was damaged on three floors and the roof was totally destroyed. Other buildings in the block were also damaged by smoke and water.
