Giving thanks for Giving Tree support

76 Nevis Park,

Inverness.

Sir, Please may I thank all involved in the Order of St John Giving Tree Christmas Appeal, held in the Eastgate Centre shopping mall, for all their efforts at Christmas 2010.

This year we had in excess of 700 children's names (actual identities unknown to us) from across the Highlands, and despite these austere times, we received in excess of 1400 gifts, which were distributed to the social work departments and passed on to the children to ensure a better Christmas for these children than they would otherwise have had.

We in the Highland Area Order of St John are immensely proud of the difference that the Giving Tree makes to all these children, and thank all who participated and gave freely of their time and resources as usual.

Our thanks go to the management and staff of the Eastgate Centre, children of Drummond School for the artwork, Speedprint for printing the cards, Tullochs for sponsoring the cards, Woody's Express for transporting gifts to the Western Isles, staff of the various social work departments across the Highlands for delivering the gifts to the children, Bill Russell for his assistance with deliveries, and to my wife for her time and efforts given so freely year upon year organising the logistics of this mammoth undertaking.

Finally, to the general public who support us every year by providing the fabulous gifts that are distributed to the children, we thank you most sincerely.

The generosity astounds us every year, and we appreciate the Christian principles of giving to those less fortunate. The feedback that we receive from the departments is that the gifts make a huge difference, which makes it all worthwhile for us.

May I also take the opportunity of wishing everyone a happy, healthy, safe and prosperous 2011.

Thank you all once more.

Yours etc,

Alex Craib,

Order of St John.
