William Gillanders

I AM looking for a William Gillanders/McDonald... the illegitimate William 'Gillanders' McDonald.

I have traced my dad's maternal line 'Gillanders' through the census' back to my 3x great grandfather William Gillanders and then he disappears.

I knew he was from the Nairn or Inverness area and managed to get Nairn Registry Office to track down his birth certificate - but his surname is actually McDonald.

According to his certificate he was born on October 5, 1863 at 7am in Upper Dallachy (although on all the census it listed him as born in Kilmorack). His mother was Margaret McDonald. His father is not listed but his grandfather is the informant.

On William's marriage certificate to an Isabella Mackie in 1885 it says; father - William Gillanders (deceased), forester and mother - Margaret McDonald, housekeeper.

Is anyone able to shed any light on my situation or is there a Gillanders family from the Inverness area who can help?

Many thanks.

Nicola White
