Inverness Caledonian Thistle will need to navigate through the Championship play-offs to save themselves from relegation despite defeating Greenock Morton tonight.

Morgan Boyes gave Inverness the lead with Kirk Broadfoot equalising for Morton just before half time.

Cameron Harper restored Caley Thistle’s lead from the penalty spot with Sean McAllister making it 3-1.

However, Queen’s Park defeated Airdrie 2-0 to secure eighth place with Inverness finishing in ninth.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle will now face Montrose in the Championship play-off semi final.

The first leg will take place at Montrose on Tuesday with the return leg on Saturday, May 11.

The winner will face either Alloa Athletic or Hamilton Academical in the two-legged final. The first leg will be played on Wednesday, May 15 with the second leg on Saturday, May 18.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle were unchanged from the team that drew 1-1 with Dunfermline Athletic at East End Park last weekend.

Greenock Morton almost took the lead after three minutes when a low drive from Callum Waters took a deflection and goalkeeper Mark Ridgers had to stretch out his legs to prevent the ball going into the net.

Alex Samuel came close to giving Inverness the lead after 12 minutes when he was through on goal, but his effort was parried away by Ryan Mullen.

Inverness broke the deadlock just after the half hour mark when a free kick into the box found Morgan Boyes who fired a volley into the top left corner.

Morton equalised four minutes before half time, Grant Gillespie's header was cleared off the line by Billy Mckay. Callum Waters then headed the ball back into the box and Broadfoot got the final chance to head home to level the score.

Inverness retook the lead 10 minutes into the second half after being awarded a penalty when Alan Power fouled Sean McAllister. Harper kept his composure to fire his shot into the bottom right corner to put them 2-1.

Morton were then reduced to 10 men when was Robbie Muirhead sent off.

Firstly booked for simulation and then he received a second yellow card for a comment he made to the referee as he walked down the tunnel for an early bath.

Inverness then made it 3-1 midway through the second half when Sean McAllister connected with a cross from the left wing from Billy Mckay. He then fired a low drive which beat Ryan Mullen into the bottom left corner.
