Four Inverness Lions teenagers called up to play for Scotland at Four Nations Tournament in Dundee

FOUR Teenagers from an Inverness basketball club have been selected to represent Scotland at an international tournament.

Inverness Lions players Molly Alexander, Holly Welch and Darcey Woodman have been selected for the Scotland Under-18 women’s team at the Four Nations Tournament in Dundee.

In addition, Callum Dalgarno has been selected for the Scotland Under-16 men’s team for the first time.

The quartet will be representing their country at the Four Nations Tournament when they will take on England, Ireland and Wales.

They are the latest players from Inverness that have been selected to play for Scotland.

Culloden Academy pupil Molly (17) and Millburn Academy pupil Holly (16) have previously played for Scotland at a younger age level in the Four Nations Tournament.

They are looking forward to showing what they have learned from the tournament last year as they go into the tournament this week.

Molly said: “It was a really good experience to play against better players at the Four Nations last year and we will look to take that into this tournament.

Holly said: “I think we can pick up at least two wins, I think we can definitely beat Wales and possibly Ireland as well.”

Nairn Academy pupil Darcey (17) is making her debut for Scotland and is hoping to impress on the international stage.

She said: “I am looking forward to seeing what it is like playing for Scotland.

“There will be a lot of pressure, but I am looking to give it my best shot.”

Millburn Academy pupil Callum (15) has played for Scotland at a younger age group previously and is looking forward to stepping up a level.

He said: “I have played for the under-14’s before and i’m looking forward to representing Scotland at a higher age level.

“It will be good if we can get two or three wins at the tournament.”

Inverness Lions Under-16 Boys and Under 18 girls are also set to compete at the Euro Cup in Spain in June when the club will take on teams from across the world.
