Clachnacuddin captain Martin Callum has confirmed that Saturday’s Highland League match against Lossiemouth will be his last.

The midfielder had his testimonial match on Wednesday evening against Elgin City after extended service to the Lilywhites.

Now, he has announced that he will retire from playing at the end of the current season, meaning the home match against Lossie will be his final bow.

Callum had also been on the coaching staff at Grant Street Park, but will be stepping down from that position too.

He wrote in his regular captain’s corner column: “Our last game of the season at home to Lossie is also going to be my last as a Clach player.

“I’m going to retire from playing and also step down from my coaching role after the weekend to allow me to spend more time with the family.

“I want to wish everyone associated with the club all the very best for the future.

“To all the players, coaching staff, volunteers, supporters and my family, thank you for all your support over the years.

“There’s not really much else I can say other than it’s been an absolute pleasure.”

It will be the end of another era at the club too, as goalkeeping coach Derek Arris is also retiring.

Affectionately known at Grant Street Park as Deek, it will bring the curtain down on a 50-year career in football, with Arris saying he cannot physically continue due to arthritis in both is hips and knees.
