Three elderly people escaped from a burning bus in Inverness this morning.

The driver managed to evacuate the passengers after spotting smoke coming from the rear of the vehicle.

Two fire crews were sent to the scene in Caulfield Road after the alarm was raised at 10.43am.

A fire service spokeswoman said the fire was confined to the rear engine compartment of the 43-seat single decker bus and it was extinguished by firefighters using a hose reel jet with two wearing breathing apparatus.

The spokeswoman added that the fire was out by 11.23am and there were no reports of anyone being injured.
