Tributes paid to Highlands woman killed in crash on A9 at Slochd blackspot

The victim of Monday’s fatal crash on the A9 at the Slochd has been named as an Aviemore woman.
Tributes have been paid to Morven Gordon, (42), of Craig na Gower Avenue, who was involved in the collision with another vehicle at the accident blackspot.
A family death notice has been issued to local media.
It states: “Sadly, due to a road traffic accident on Monday, 6th May 2024 on the A9, Morven Gordon, 46A Craig na Gower Avenue, Aviemore aged 42 years…
“So much loved by her heart-broken mother Carol and brothers James and Fraser.
“Loving aunty, cousin, niece and a cherished friend to many.”

A9 Dual Action Group leader Laura Hansler sent her condolences to the family.
She was attending today’s Holyrood committee inquiry into why the A9 was not upgraded as promised by the Scottish Government by the 2025 deadline.
Ms Hansler took a break from the Citizen Participation and Petitions Committee hearing - where former First Minister Alex Salmond also referenced Monday’s tragic crash - to pay her own tribute.
She said: “I’m utterly devastated by the loss of such a well loved local lady.
“It is yet again a needless and utterly tragic loss of life on the A9.
“We spoke about it today in parliament and everyone present in committee was at a loss for words.
“This simply can’t go on - we must continue to ensure that the A9 will be dualled as promised.”
Fellow A9 safety campaigner and local MSP Fergus Ewing said: “This further loss of life is a tragedy and my thoughts are with the family. “
“I hope to raise the A9 tomorrow with John Swinney at First Minister’s Question Time.”
“I have had discussions with MSPs in other parties all of which support the dualling of the A9 “
“They are Conservative, Labour, Lib Dem and Alba.
“The individuals have all agreed to seek a joint meeting with the new First Minister in order to accelerate the dualling programme and thus prevent further loss of life “
“He has promised to work with other parties. Now I’m asking him to do just that.
“He was Finance Secretary when the pledge was first made to dual the A9 by 2025.
“Now he’s First Minister I fully expect he will be determined to fulfil this pledge albeit late.”
Police Scotland continue to appeal for information following the crash which happened around 9.30pm on Monday and involved a white Kia Rio and a white Iveco Daily van.
The male driver and passenger of the Iveco were not injured in the incident.
The road was closed to allow for investigation to take place and fully reopened around 4.45am.
Enquiries are still ongoing.
Sergeant David Miller, from the Dingwall Road Policing Unit, said: “At this time, our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased, as they come to terms with their tragic loss.
“We are appealing to anyone with information, or motorists who may have dashcam footage from nearby on the A9 around the time of the crash, to please come forward.
“If you believe you can assist our enquiries, please call 101, quoting incident 3682 of 6 May, 2024.”
Completing the dualling of the A9 between Inverness and Perth has been delayed by 10 years until 2035.
