A 17-year-old boy has appeared from custody at Inverness Sheriff Court charged with robbing a 70-year-old woman of her handbag.

The teenager, who cannot be named because he is under the age of 18, pleaded not guilty to a charge of committing robbery in the Market Brae Steps area of Inverness at around 1.30pm on Sunday.

Solicitor Willie Young applied for bail on behalf of the youth.

This was not opposed by fiscal depute Martina Eastwood and Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood released the youngster until an intermediate diet on May 7.

Trial was fixed for May 29.

Police Scotland had previously issued a statement thanking members of the public who had assisted with their investigations into the matter.
