Alex Campbell has taken up the role as chief executive at Port of Cromarty Firth.

The Port of Cromarty Firth (PoCF) has named business leader Alex Campbell as their new chief executive.

Mr Campbell, who according to PoCF has extensive experience in the renewables, oil and gas, marine and environmental sectors, will succeed Bob Buskie, who has retired after a decade at the helm of the Invergordon-based Port.

Commenting on his new position, he said: “The Port of Cromarty Firth is a leading Trust Port and a powerhouse of the Highland economy and I am honoured to have been chosen to lead the organisation.

“These are exciting times for the Port and the Highlands as we look towards the full establishment of Inverness and Cromarty Firth Green Freeport and the area becoming a key hub for the development of the offshore wind industry.

“I look forward to working with the Port’s excellent team and all its stakeholders to maximise the long-term benefits of these unprecedented opportunities in offshore renewables whilst continuing to support and develop our services in established industries such as cruise and oil and gas.”

Mr Campbell has joined the Trust Port from environmental and geospatial consultancy APEM Ltd, where he was managing director, based in Aberdeen.

He has previously held similar positions at survival and safety solutions company Survitec Group and James Fisher and Sons plc, a provider of specialist services to the marine, oil and gas, renewables and other global, high assurance industries.

Mr Campbell’s experience also includes an eight-year spell at multi-national engineering firm Atkins, where he was Managing Director, Oil and Gas.

PoCF Chair, Hugh Mitchell, said: “Alex brings the experience, leadership skills and enthusiasm needed to lead the Port forward and joins at a most exciting time as we seek to progress the Port’s ambition to be the major marshalling and integration port for offshore wind.

We are delighted to welcome him following a recruitment process which attracted a number of very high calibre candidates.

“I would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of the board and the Port team, to express our gratitude to Bob Buskie, whose tenure saw the Port’s turnover, staff and land capacity double and culminated in Inverness and the Cromarty Firth winning Green Freeport status. We wish him all the very best in his retirement.”
