Garth Green, of Stewart Street, Nairn, appeared in private at Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday charged with driving at excessive speed, causing the car to hit a kerb and collide with a wall at the junction of Glebe Road and Marine Road, Nairn, at 6.30am on Sunday.

Green (31) is also charged with failing to provide his name at the scene of the crash and a specimen of breath at Burnett Road Police Station.

He made no plea or declaration and was released on bail.

Miss Miller (23), who had completed a degree in fashion design and management, was a back-seat passenger in the white Nissan car which smashed into a garden wall.

She was rushed to Raigmore Hospital but died later. Two other women, who were also passengers in the back-seat, were taken to hospital with minor injuries. Green and another man did not require hospital treatment.

The crash site has since been covered in flowers, sympathy cards and teddy bears, including one which simply read "Someone Special".

Another message said: "Rest in peace Sarah — now you're a real angel."

Her family were still too upset to comment yesterday, but it is understood her father Brodie works in the oil industry and is on his way home to be with her mother Yvonne, a teacher at Millbank Primary School in Nairn.

The couple have one other daughter, Lucy (24).

Tributes to Miss Miller, who was assistant manager at fashion store M&Co on Nairn High Street have been led by the store's manager, Frances Ross, who said all her colleagues were shocked by the news.

"We are all finding it very upsetting," she said. "She was a fantastic girl, brilliant at her job and brought a breath of fresh air to the whole store. Everybody loved her — customers and staff alike and we're all just devastated by the loss.

"She had only been with the company since October but she made a big impression on everybody that she met."

It is understood Miss Miller planned to travel before pursuing her career.

A friend, who wished to remain anonymous, paid his own tributes at the crash site yesterday.

"It's hard to put into words but at the end of the day you couldn't actually get a better lassie," he said. "She had a heart of gold and will be sorely and deeply missed by everybody, especially her friends."

Sympathy messages have also poured onto Miss Miller's social networking website from other friends.

"Such a beautiful girl, loved by so many," wrote Fiona Shearer. "God Bless Sarah, love for you and your family."

The road was closed temporarily on Sunday for police to carry out an accident investigation. It is understood no other vehicles were involved.
