FIVE people accused of assaulting the captain of Elgin City Football Club and his teammate in Inverness city centre have appeared in court.

Captain David Hind and Craig Campbell were allegedly attacked on Stephen’s Brae on 31st August after a night out.
David Finlay (18), of Birchwood, Invergordon, Rhiannan McLafferty (19), of Charleston View, Inverness, Sean Henny (19), of Culduthel Road, Inverness, and Taran Campbell (23), of Ferry Brae, North Kessock, pleaded not guilty to assaulting Mr Hind and repeatedly striking him on the head, pulling him to the ground, repeatedly punching, kicking and stamping on his head and body and sitting on top of him, all to his injury, when they appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court.
Henry and Campbell also deny assaulting midfielder Craig Campbell, who played for Ross County as a youngster before joining Elgin from Forres Mechanics, and repeatedly punching and kicking him on the head and body, causing him to fall, repeatedly punching him on the head and body and kicking him on the head, all to his injury.
Alan Coe (24), of Charles Street, Inverness, is charged with assaulting both Mr Hind and Mr Campbell as well as another man, Richard Downer, by striking him on the head. He is still to secure legal aid and made no plea.
All five are also charged with conducting themselves in a disorderly manner, shouting, swearing and committing a breach of the peace.
Defender Mr Hind, who works for Scottish Provincial Press, played as a youth for Inverness Caledonian Thistle before signing for Elgin in March 2001.
The case has been deferred until 13th January, with a trial due to take place on 5th February.
