Sir, I refer to D. Morrison's letter (Courier 18.3.08) criticising Clach fans for having the audacity to criticise David Dowling's wonderful handling of the £49,000-plus rent owed to the Inverness Common Good Fund.

Unlike Mr Morrison, who states he isn't a football fan, we do not attend a Clach dinner, (no doubt at their company's expense), once in a blue moon, but spend hard-earned cash following Clach Football Club week-in, week-out.

Mr Morrison also suggests Clach shareholder Ken Macleod speaks highly of David Dowling, which I'm sure will be news to everyone connected to the club, because Mr Macleod has not hidden his disgust, just like his fellow city councillors, at the way our beleaguered chairman has handled this from day one of the rent fiasco. Indeed we believe the chairman was ready to get wheels in motion to get shot of Mr Macleod prior to his resignation announcement, of which everyone is very sceptical of and waiting for a U-turn decision statement at the end of the season, after the council has done all the spade work for him.

Thanks to Mr Dowling's efforts, we have now added £49,000 to already spiralling debts under his leadership. One thing we do agree with Mr Morrison, maybe Clach can't afford to let him go, after all what other businessman would get away without paying £49,000 rent over four years to his landlord?
