A REQUEST has been made for Highland Council's most senior official to reveal details of all telephone conversations and e-mails about the authority's care homes programme.

Councillor John Finnie, leader of the council's SNP opposition, wants copies of all correspondence shared between officials over the last three months.

He has called on council chief executive Alistair Dodds to provide the information.

It follows a decision by councillors last Thursday's meeting of the full council to delay plans for the building of five new care homes so that a business case can be prepared.

Councillor Finnie has already expressed his frustration with officers and senior members of the Independent-Lib Dem/Labour administration, claiming they provided false reassurances about the progression of the care home programme. He said even as late as two weeks ago councillors were told the homes were going ahead as planned.

"We are told that this delay is to allow time for a business case yet that same meeting approved minutes from the social work committee meeting of 11th November which noted that the capital programme remained on target," said Councillor Finnie (Inverness Ness-side). "I have written to the chief executive requesting copies of all correspondence and details of all telephone calls to and from officials about the Care Home Programme in the last three months and hopefully that will shed some light on this sudden lurch towards total privatisation of care."
