THE resignations of first team managers Billy MacLean and David Menzies are set to dominate the agenda of Glenurquhart's annual general meeting in Drumnadrochit this evening.

Replacing the duo is an urgent matter for the club, with pre-season training expected to start early in the New Year.

Steve Henderson and Mike Cameron are likely to continue their successful tenure in charge of the second team, which means the search is on for a new manager for the senior side which acquitted itself so impressively in the Premier Division this year.

One name which is possibly in the frame for the post is club chairman Jim Barr, who enjoyed a distinguished playing career with the club including gaining a full Scotland cap.

Barr, who is also the Camanachd Association's director for finance, was cagy about the possibility of taking over at Glen next season, although he is thought to be a leading contender.

"There is no point in speculating about this at the moment," he said. "The matter will be decided at the AGM and it would be presumptuous of me to second guess what the meeting will decide."

Barr did pay tribute to MacLean and Menzies, saying that the club owed a huge debt to the duo, who have stepped down to recharge their batteries.

"The first team made remarkable progress under their management," he commented. "Taking the team from mid table in North Division One to the upper reaches of the Premier Division is an outstanding achievement and along the way we also got to the finals of the Balliemore and MacTavish Cups."

Barr was sympathetic towards the duo in their decision to stand down after four seasons in the post.

"We completely respect their decision," he added. "It is a huge commitment and this season has lasted 10 months.

"They are both family men and being away just about every second Saturday during the summer months is not easy."

MacLean, who is finance director for a motor dealership in Inverness and Menzies, who runs his own electrical contracting business, both intend to stay on at the club. MacLean is expected to help with youth development while it is understood Menzies has agreed to continue his involvement on the club's committee.
