IAIN Polworth is adamant that Clach started looking forward to their trip to Fraserburgh tomorrow at 5pm last Saturday.

The Lilywhites had just trudged off the pitch at Grant Street Park having been soundly beaten 7-1 by Highland League title hopefuls Huntly. Clach, however, will seek redemption this weekend, although they face just as big a task with Fraserburgh, who defeated Inverurie Locos away from home last Saturday, lying in wait. Having caved in against Huntly, the Merkinchers will have their resolve severely tested once more, but manager Polworth says the players should not feel sorry for themselves. "It's going to be a difficult task for us once again on Saturday," he stated. "However, it's a game that we really started to look forward to come 5pm last Saturday. "As I see it, it can go one of two ways. We can feel sorry for ourselves and get beat again or we can roll our sleeves up and work that wee bit harder. "The training this week has been good. We had a chat about what happened against Huntly and everyone agreed that it wasn't acceptable. "It was an open forum as the players also got their chance to put their views across, but once we had all had our say then we focused on how to go forward as we cannot afford to look back. "We also don't want to use the fact that we're missing players or what is happening off the field as excuses for that performance as that's simply not the case. It's important now that the players learn from the mistakes they've made and can go about putting them right against Fraserburgh." Along with the absence of long-term injury victims Gordon MacKenzie, Neil Gibb and Chris Ross, who will remain out of action until next year, Clach will be without James Fraser because of injury as well, while Steven MacDonald is a major doubt due to an eye infection. David Matheson serves the second game of his two-match ban, while Duncan Jones and Blair Lawrie will be absent due to work commitments. There is, however, some better news for Polworth with John MacAskill, Michael Finnis and Colin Williamson all available again after suspension. Related articles: |
