AN area of Inverness High Street has been cordoned off after masonry fell from a building.

Police put up tape outside several buildings after receiving reports of the incident at 2.30am.

Highland Council’s building standards officers are investigating the situation.

It is understood the masonry fell from privately-owned property which houses the Highlander Hostel and cosmetics store Lush.

The masonry has been removed but the cordon will remain in place near the junction with Lombard Street until authorities deem the area to be safe.

It is the latest in several reports of loose masonry in Inverness city centre.
