A DRAMA teacher will be putting herself in the spotlight for the first time in years as she pushes herself out of her comfort zone and into the world of singing.

Ness Factor contestant Kirsteen Wallace (30) decided that there was no better way to score ‘singing on stage’ off her bucket list than while raising money for the Highland Hospice.

"I have an extremely strong passion for performing but it has been a good couple of years since I have been on stage and I want to get back out there and push myself – this time it will be a jump from drama to singing.

"Everything I have ever done has always been acting based – I have never had one-to-one singing lessons so it has been a good opportunity to try something new."

She is planning on using the skills she has gained as a freelance drama teacher to raise money for the hospice.

"I am hosting a three-hour workshop for kids and there will be dancing, mask making, games and a tuck shop," she said.

"I enjoy teaching and it is a good opportunity for kids to have fun during their holidays."

The event will be held at Nairn Parish Church on Saturday, October 7 and is open for children aged seven to 14, running from 10am until 1pm. There will also be a photobooth and costumes for children to try on.

It costs £10 per child which includes a balloon and bottle of water.

Miss Wallace has also been busy fundraising with her collection bucket and taking part in a 10k Beast Race a few weeks ago. Friends and family sponsored her as she ‘broke the beast’ and took on a series of obstacles around Loch Ness.

"The money raised will go straight to the Highland Hospice," she said.

"It makes a big difference to local lives."

She has not thought much about the actual performance and whether she could be in with a chance of winning.

"I am actually quite excited about the competition but I think that the nerves will kick in on the night," she said.

"I just want to put on the best show I can, it has already been an amazing experience."

Miss Wallace will battle eight other performers on October 21 in the Drumossie Hotel in Inverness.
