A 56 year old man has appeared in private at Inverness Sheriff Court following an alleged disturbance in the city's Kenneth Street.

Allan Craig from Inverness made no plea to a charge of breach of the peace, was committed for further examination and remanded in custody.

He will appear again within the next eight days.

A heavy police presence, including armed officers and other emergency services, were present outside a property near the Telford roundabout end of Kenneth Street after a near seven-hour stand-off.

Officers encircled the address, close to Muirtown Street, just before 12 noon and taped off the area to prevent members of the public from gaining access.
