CIARAN Docherty was the top performer for Inverness Tang Soo Do after taking home five medals from the Dutch Open Championships.
The 15-year-old was one of three members from the Highland Capital club — Jamie Anderson and Rhys Davies the other two — that made the trip to Rotterdam for the two-day competition that was attended by 180 competitors from across Europe.
The Championships commenced with a day-long international seminar where Grandmasters from Holland, America and the UK passed on their skills.
Despite the physical exertions of this event, it was greatly received by those who took part with a vast amount of knowledge being gained by all.
The second day consisted of the individual events with both juniors and seniors mixed into large categories. This meant the average category size the Inverness students competed in was 17.
It did not prevent Docherty, from Smithton, however, from claiming five medals. The 2nd dan black belt finished first in knife form, long staff forms and point sparring, while he was second in the traditional forms and short stick forms.
Anderson (16), a 1st dan black belt from Culloden Moor, managed a very respectable second place in point sparring while Davies, of Inverness, also a 1st dan black belt and aged 16, took third place in the short stick forms.
