Ward 4C at Raigmore Hospital has re-opened.

A WARD at Raigmore Hospital, which was closed to new admissions and transfers following an outbreak of Clostridium difficile, has re-opened.

There have been no new cases of the superbug since Friday and only one patient remains in Ward 4C with the infection.

They are being cared for in isolation.

“We are continuing to monitor the situation very closely but by putting in place strict conditions about the care and movement of patients we have now been able to reopen the ward," said Dr Emma Watson, lead infection, prevention and control doctor for NHS Highland.

“Staff across the hospital have been working hard to manage this outbreak and my thanks go to them for their continued support."

A patient remains in Belford Hospital, Fort William, with the infection after being discharged from Raigmore and relapsing.

Ten cases of the superbug were confirmed in January - eight linked to the outbreak.
