Police were at the flat on Mackay Road yesterday - days after the death of a baby girl.

POLICE investigations were continuing into the unexplained death of a baby girl in the Hilton area of Inverness yesterday.

The three-week-old, named on Monday by police as Michaela Haining, died at Raigmore Hospital on Thursday in what police have described as a "tragic" incident.

The flat at the centre of investigations, in Mackay Road, remained covered up yesterday, with two police officers on guard outside.

Few people in the surrounding neighbourhood appeared to know any details of what had happened.

One woman said: "The police have been round talking to people but they’re obviously not telling anyone exactly what has happened.

"I just feel for the baby. It’s a horrible thing to have happened."

A police statement said the death was being treated as "unexplained".

Detective Inspector Brian Geddes said specialist officers would continue to be in the area over the next few days.
