ANGLERS have gathered on the River Ness to celebrate the official opening of the salmon fishing season.

The water was blessed with whisky before anglers took their first cast.

The event saw Inverness Angling Club members and president Mike Campbell piped to the Mill Stream Pool by pipe major Ken Watson, of the Northern Constabulary Pipe Band.

The opening was sponsored by Holm Mills Shopping Centre, whose manager Neil Souter had the honour of blessing the water.
