CELTIC rockers Runrig will perform in Inverness next summer.
The concert at the Northern Meeting Park on Saturday 25th August is the band’s only outdoor Scottish date next year.
It will also be Runrig’s first concert in Scotland in almost two years, having had an 18-month break from the touring circuit.
Tickets for the concert, part of the Rewired Tour, go on sale at 9am on Friday.
Promoters CK Events are urging people to buy early to avoid disappointment as the concert will have limited capacity of 7500 people.
"We are delighted to be bringing Runrig back to Scotland after a two year absence," said Kenny Cameron, of CK Events.
"Runrig is a long-standing Scottish group, renowned for always putting on a great show. To welcome the band to Inverness for its only outdoor Scottish concert of the year, is a great honour and is shaping-up to be a fantastic night featuring performances of hits including Loch Lomond as well as new material prepared in recent months.
"Tickets are limited for this concert and initial demand is expected to be high when tickets go on sale on Friday."
Lead singer Bruce Guthro is excited about performing again and playing some new material.
"They say absence makes the heart grow fonder and I know that I speak for all of us when I say, I’m really excited about getting back on stage with the band again," he said. "I think the break has been very positive for us all — it has given us a freshness, and an energy, of which the audience will, hopefully, be the main benefactors."
It will be the first time Runrig — who celebrate 40 years in the music business in 2013 — will have returned to play outdoors in Inverness since its very wet Beat the Drum gig in Drumnadrochit more than four years ago.
A further announcement is expected by CK Events soon regarding another concert in Inverness over the weekend of 24th/25th August as part of Summer in the City 2012.
Tickets for Runrig are available from Cafferys Menswear, Union Street, Inverness, or from CK Events by visiting www.ckevents.net, or telephoning 0844 888 9991.
