A MAN who sparked a police, coastguard and RNLI search has been reported to the procurator fiscal for drink-driving.
A member of the public made a concerned phone call to the police after spotting the 22-year-old with a bleeding head walking on the A82 near the Altsigh Youth Hostel at around 2am today.
Rescuers including an RNLI Loch Ness crew, Inverness Coastguard helicopter and volunteers spent two hours searching for the man in sub zero temperatures, before he was picked up by police. The man was checked at Raigmore Hospital and his injuries were not serious.
“It was dark, conditions were well below freezing and it was snowing at times,” said Martin Douglas of RNLI Loch Ness.
“After searching for more than two hours we decided to switch crews but we got back to the base and were told to stand down because he had been found by police.”
A police spokeswoman said: “We picked up a man and took him to accident and emergency. Afterwards he was reported for road traffic offences.”
