Only potholes deemed a danger will be repaired

ONLY potholes deemed a priority will be fixed by the council because nearly all money allocated for repairs in this current financial year has been spent.

Roads manager Richard Evans this week admitted Highland Council does not have the resources to deal with every pothole, but said it will prioritise repairs based on how dangerous the pothole is, how busy the road is and what potholes it is made aware of.

"If something is category one, the most dangerous, we have to go and fix that and it means something else doesn’t get done, it’s a prioritisation exercise," he explained.

His comments follow a period of adverse weather, including rain, snow and ice, which has worsened many potholes throughout the region.

Roads in Merkinch, Dalneigh, Lochardil, Culloden, Hilton and the Longman, as well as the A9, have recently been highlighted by Inverness Courier readers as suffering from potholes and garages across Inverness have been inundated with drivers requiring costly repairs for damage caused.
